Baked macaroni and cheese with crispy breadcrumb topping, a comforting classic.
Ingredients:
  • 20 ounces elbow macaroni
  • 0.5 cup butter
  • 0.375 cup all-purpose flour
  • 6 cups milk
  • 1.5 pounds shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 0.75 cup bread crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
Instructions:
  • First, preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) to create the perfect cooking environment. Then, generously grease a 9x13-inch baking dish for easy removal and a deliciously moist outcome.
  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook elbow macaroni until al dente, about 8 minutes, stirring occasionally. Drain well.
  • In a large pot over medium heat, melt 1/2 cup of butter. Stir in flour until smooth. Gradually pour in milk while stirring constantly. Allow the mixture to come to a boil. Cook and stir until thickened, approximately 2 minutes.
  • Lower the heat to medium-low and gradually add Cheddar cheese in small portions, stirring each batch into the milk mixture until melted before adding more. Mix in the macaroni until well coated, then transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish.
  • Combine bread crumbs and rich melted butter in a small bowl, then generously sprinkle this delightful mixture over the macaroni.
  • Bake until the top turns a beautiful golden brown in a preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes.
