Elevate your mac and cheese with a veggie-infused casserole topped with crispy cheese and bread crumbs for a delicious twist.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni (about 9 oz)
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/3 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon onion salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 3 cups milk
  • 4 cups shredded Cheddar cheese (16 oz)
  • 2 cups chopped cooked chicken
  • 1 bag (16 oz) frozen broccoli florets
  • 1 1/2 cups Progresso™ panko crispy bread crumbs
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 375°F and generously coat a 13x9-inch (3-quart) glass baking dish with cooking spray. Follow package instructions to cook the macaroni, making sure to cook for the minimum recommended time. Drain the macaroni once cooked.
  • Melt 4 tablespoons of butter in a 5-quart Dutch oven over medium heat. Whisk in flour, onion salt, garlic salt, and pepper until thickened. Cook for 1 more minute. Gradually whisk in milk. Bring to a boil over high heat, stirring frequently, then boil and stir for 1 minute. Remove from heat and stir in 3 cups of cheese until melted. Add macaroni, chicken, and frozen broccoli. Transfer mixture to a baking dish and sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of cheese on top.
  • Combine bread crumbs and melted butter in a small bowl; then sprinkle over the macaroni mixture.
  • Bake for 33 to 36 minutes until the mixture is bubbly, the center reaches at least 165°F, and the bread crumbs are golden brown.
