Indulgent breakfast treat: Maple-glazed bacon doughnuts.
Ingredients:
  • Vegetable oil
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 6 slices maple-flavored bacon, crisply cooked, crumbled
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/3 cup maple-flavored syrup
Instructions:
  • Heat 2 inches of oil in a large saucepan or Dutch oven to 350°F.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together egg, milk, and butter until smooth. Add flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and bacon, and mix until well combined.
  • Gently place heaping tablespoons of dough, forming 6 balls, into hot oil. Fry doughnut balls for 30 seconds to 1 minute on each side until golden brown. Then, let them cool on paper towels for about 20 minutes.
  • Combine powdered sugar and water in a medium bowl until smooth, then mix in maple-flavored syrup. Adjust consistency by adding water, 1 teaspoon at a time, until glaze is thick. Dip cooled doughnut balls in glaze, allowing excess to drip off. If glaze is too thin and disappears while drying, dip the doughnut balls again or thicken the glaze with a bit more powdered sugar. Place the glazed doughnut balls on a cooling rack and let them sit until the glaze sets, approximately 10 minutes.
