Irresistible homemade nut brittle with crunchy nuts, chocolate chips, and maple-caramel candy base. Perfect for Christmas!
Ingredients:
  • cooking spray
  • 1 cup almonds, divided
  • 2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup maple syrup
  • 0.5 cup cold butter
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
Instructions:
  • Cover a baking sheet with aluminum foil and lightly coat it with cooking spray. Set aside 2 tablespoons of almonds and evenly sprinkle the remaining almonds over the foil.
  • In a 2-quart saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar and maple syrup. Stir until sugar is dissolved and mixture reaches a full boil, approximately 10 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) for the perfect baking temperature.
  • Once the oven reaches the desired temperature, switch it off. Slide the baking sheet with your ingredients into the warm oven.
  • Secure a candy thermometer to the saucepan containing the caramel mixture. Incorporate the butter. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the mixture hits 300 degrees F (149 degrees C) or until a small amount dropped into ice water forms a hard, brittle strand, approximately 20 minutes.
  • Retrieve the baking sheet from the oven and promptly drizzle the caramel mixture over the almonds. Spread it out evenly to a 1/4-inch thickness. Sprinkle the remaining almonds and chocolate chips over any empty spots. Evenly spread out the chocolate once it melts. Allow the brittle to cool fully, around 30 minutes, then break it into pieces.
