Maple pecan shortbread squares with a sweet and sticky topping.
Ingredients:
  • 0.33333334326744 cup packed brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup softened butter
  • 3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 0.5 cup chopped pecans
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a mixer, blend flour and 1/3 cup brown sugar. Add softened butter and mix until dough forms. Press dough into an ungreased 8x8-inch baking dish and prick with a fork.
  • Bake the shortbread in the preheated oven until golden brown, about 20 minutes. Meanwhile, whisk together the egg, 1/3 cup brown sugar, maple syrup, and pecans in a bowl. Once the shortbread is baked, pour the pecan mixture over the hot crust and bake again until set, about 12 to 15 minutes. After baking, run a knife around the edges to prevent sticking. Let it cool completely, then cut into 1-inch squares to serve.
