Total Time:
4 hours
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 cup finely chopped toasted walnuts
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon maple flavor
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips (6 oz)
Instructions:
  • Start by blending the butter and sugar in a large bowl until smooth using an electric mixer. Mix in 1/2 cup of walnuts and the egg yolk until well combined. Gradually add the flour, baking powder, salt, and maple flavor while mixing on low speed until a stiff dough comes together. Form the dough into a ball, wrap it in plastic wrap, and chill in the refrigerator for 45 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Divide the dough into 8 equal parts and shape each part into a 12-inch long rope that is 3/4 inch thick on a lightly floured surface. Cut the ropes into 2-inch lengths. Place the cookies about 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets and gently flatten them.
  • Bake for 15 to 17 minutes until edges turn golden brown. Let them cool for 2 minutes, then transfer to cooling racks. Allow them to cool completely.
  • Place the chocolate chips in a small microwavable bowl and microwave on High for 1 minute and 30 seconds, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth. In another small bowl, place the remaining 1 cup of walnuts. Dip one long side of each cookie 1/2 inch into the chocolate, then coat the chocolate edge with walnuts. Place the cookies on waxed paper and let them stand for about 2 hours until the chocolate sets.
