Delicious open-face burgers with mushrooms, bacon, balsamic vinegar, and ground beef impressed Italian chef boyfriend with bold flavors.
Ingredients:
  • 8 slices bacon
  • 0.5 white onion, diced
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar, or to taste
  • 5 fresh mushrooms, chopped
  • 0.5 pound ground beef
  • 0.5 cup dry bread crumbs
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1.5 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 malted wheat hamburger bun, split in half
  • 2 slices tomato
  • 2 slices Swiss cheese
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until it turns golden brown and crispy. Then, transfer the bacon to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
  • Heat the skillet to medium-high, then sauté the onion and garlic until onion is soft and garlic starts to brown. Pour in balsamic vinegar, stir for one minute, add mushrooms, and cook for three more minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • Finely chop 4 slices of bacon, reserving 4 for later. In a medium bowl, mix chopped bacon with ground beef, bread crumbs, Italian seasoning, Parmesan cheese, mushroom mixture, and egg. Use your hands to combine the ingredients thoroughly. Season with salt and pepper, then shape the mixture into two patties.
  • Lay the hamburger bun halves on an ungreased cookie sheet. Top each half with a beef patty, one slice of tomato, 2 slices of reserved bacon, and a slice of Swiss cheese.
  • Cook in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until the meat is fully cooked.
