Simplify birthday party catering with crowd-pleasing mini hamburgers.
Ingredients:
  • 3 small brown onions
  • 250g beef mince
  • 82.50 ml dried breadcrumbs
  • 125.00 gm tomato chutney
  • 20g butter
  • 32.00 gm brown sugar
  • 20.00 ml balsamic vinegar
  • olive oil cooking spray
  • 6 hamburger buns
  • 24 baby spinach leaves, trimmed
Instructions:
  • 1. Begin by finely chopping half of an onion and thinly slicing the remaining portion. Combine the chopped onion with minced meat, breadcrumbs, an egg, and 1 tablespoon of chutney in a bowl. Season generously with salt and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined. Form the mixture into 24 balls using tablespoons, then gently flatten them. Arrange the patties on a plate, cover, and let them chill in the refrigerator for 10 minutes.
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and sauté sliced onions for 5 minutes until softened. Stir in sugar and vinegar, bring to a boil, then lower the heat. Simmer covered for 5 minutes, then uncover and cook for an additional 3 to 4 minutes until onions caramelize. Keep warm, covered until serving.
  • Heat a large frying pan greased with oil over medium-high heat. Cook 6 patties for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until fully cooked. Repeat with the rest of the patties.
  • Preheat the grill to medium heat. Slice each bun into 3 rounds each, discarding the middle slice. Using a 4cm cutter, make 48 rounds from the remaining slices. Arrange the rounds cut-side up on trays and grill for 2 to 3 minutes until golden.
  • Layer spinach, the rest of the chutney, patties, and caramelized onions on the bottom buns. Top with the top buns and secure each burger with a toothpick. Serve and enjoy!
