Classic and irresistible sugar cookies inspired by Mrs. Field's.
Ingredients:
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.25 cup colored sugar for decoration
  • 0.75 cup butter
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
  • Combine flour and salt in a medium bowl using a wire whisk. Cream butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl with an electric mixer on medium speed. Add egg and vanilla, beat until well blended. Scrape down sides of the bowl, then add the flour mixture. Blend on low speed until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  • Shape the dough into a ball, then gently press it into a disk shape and tightly wrap it in plastic wrap or a plastic bag. Chill in the refrigerator for one hour until firm.
  • Roll out the dough on a floured surface to 1/4 inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to create shapes and arrange on ungreased cookie sheets. Sprinkle with colored sugars or sprinkles. Bake for 13-15 minutes until done, avoiding any browning. Transfer the cookies to a flat surface as soon as they come out of the oven using a spatula.
