Make tasty multigrain cookies with decorative baked-on frosting.
Ingredients:
  • 3 1/4 cups Gold Medal™ whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornmeal
  • 1/4 cup wheat germ
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2/3 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 3 to 4 teaspoons hot water
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Combine all cookie ingredients in a large bowl until thoroughly mixed. Divide dough into thirds. Roll out each portion to 1/8 inch thickness on a lightly floured surface. Use cookie cutters to create shapes and place them 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Combine 2/3 cup of flour with butter in a medium bowl until smooth. Gradually stir in hot water until the mixture is thin enough to drizzle. Transfer the frosting into a decorating bag fitted with a number 5 writing tip. Use the frosting to outline or decorate the unbaked cookies.
  • Bake until edges are golden brown, about 12 to 14 minutes. Let cool briefly, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
