Mushroom Sauce with Red Wine

Savory mushroom sauce with beef broth and red wine perfectly complements grilled steaks or filet mignon.
Ingredients:
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 0.5 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups sliced button mushrooms
  • 1.5 cups Cabernet Sauvignon
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 0.25 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
Instructions:
  • In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Stir in garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper; cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Add mushrooms and saute for approximately 5 minutes until tender.
  • Simmer wine and beef broth until the sauce thickens to three-fourths its original volume, approximately 20 minutes.
  • Whisk together water and cornstarch until smooth, then stir into the sauce. Simmer over medium-low heat until thickened, about 2 to 3 minutes.
