Generational chocolate sheet cake with rich icing - ideal for birthdays and special occasions.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups sifted cake flour
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 0.25 cup cocoa powder
  • 0.5 cup buttermilk
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter
  • 6 tablespoons milk
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) while preparing a 10x15-inch cake pan by greasing and flouring it.
  • Combine flour, sugar, and baking soda in a large bowl, then leave it aside.
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter with water, cocoa powder, and vanilla extract until velvety and just boiling. Drizzle over the flour mix and blend. Add buttermilk and eggs, then transfer the batter to the prepared pan.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes.
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, gently bring together butter, milk, cocoa powder, and vanilla extract for the icing. Once it reaches a slow boil, whisk in powdered sugar until smooth. Drizzle the warm icing on the cake and allow it to set for 2 hours before enjoying.
