Caramelized onion and paprika sauce with rye bread, a nostalgic touch from my Oma's kitchen, perfect for pork or beef.
Ingredients:
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3 medium onions, coarsely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 slice dark rye bread, torn into pieces
  • salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter until bubbly. Add onions and sauté until beautifully browned. Sprinkle in sugar and cook until onions turn a rich golden hue, about 10 minutes. Stir in chicken broth, vinegar, and season with paprika. Fold in bread until it dissolves. Bring to a boil, then simmer gently for 3 minutes.
  • Blend the mixture in a food processor or blender until smooth. Enjoy alongside pork or beef.
