Effortless baked French toast with orange batter and caramel pecan topping replaces syrup for a decadent twist.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 0.33333334326744 cup butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
  • 0.33333334326744 cup chopped pecans
  • 12 (3/4 inch thick) slices French bread
  • 1 teaspoon grated orange zest
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice
  • 0.5 cup 2% milk
  • 3 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3 egg whites
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon confectioners' sugar for dusting
Instructions:
  • Combine brown sugar, melted butter, and corn syrup in a small bowl. Spread the mixture evenly in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Sprinkle pecans over the mixture. Arrange bread slices snugly in a single layer at the bottom of the dish.
  • Whisk together orange zest, orange juice, milk, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, egg whites, and eggs in a bowl. Pour over bread, press gently to absorb. Cover and refrigerate for at least one hour or overnight.
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) while uncovering the baking dish and allowing it to rest at room temperature for 20 minutes.
  • Bake at 350°F until golden brown, for about 35 minutes. Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar before serving.
