Create a charming holiday gift by stacking and tying together crispy cookies with a ribbon.
Ingredients:
  • 3/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon grated orange peel
  • 1 tablespoon orange juice
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/2 cups Gold Medal™ flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/4 cup chopped crystallized ginger
  • 1/4 cup decorator sugar crystals
Instructions:
  • In a large bowl, cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy using an electric mixer. Mix in orange zest, orange juice, and egg until well combined. Gradually add flour, baking powder, and salt on low speed. Fold in pecans and ginger.
  • Split the dough in half and form each half into a 10-inch log. Spread 2 tablespoons of sugar crystals on a sheet of plastic wrap and roll one log in the sugar to cover it. Wrap the log in plastic wrap and repeat the process with the second log and remaining sugar crystals. Chill in the refrigerator for about 3 hours until very firm.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F. Slice logs into 1/4-inch slices and arrange them 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes, until the edges are golden brown and the tops are light golden. Transfer immediately to cooling racks and let cool completely for about 15 minutes.
