Create stunning holiday table centerpieces with this recipe for two decadent cakes that double as delightful desserts.
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ White Cake Mix
  • Water, vegetable oil and egg whites called for on cake mix box
  • Green and red food colors from 1 box (2.7 oz) Betty Crocker™ classic gel food colors
  • 1 tub (12 oz) Betty Crocker™ Whipped Fluffy White Frosting
  • 2 miniature chocolate-covered peanut butter cup candies, unwrapped
  • Red string licorice, cut into 2 pieces (each 2 1/2 inches)
  • 1 tube (0.68 oz) Betty Crocker™ red decorating gel
  • 1 tube (0.68 oz) Betty Crocker™ green decorating gel
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F and generously grease only the bottoms of two 8-inch round cake pans with shortening or cooking spray.
  • Prepare the cake batter following the directions on the box. Divide the batter in half. Add 4 drops of green food color to one half and 4 drops of red food color to the other half. Pour the colored batters into pans and bake according to the box instructions for 8-inch rounds. Allow the cakes to cool for 10 minutes, then gently run a knife around the edges of the pans, remove the cakes from the pans, and transfer them to a cooling rack. Let them cool completely for about 1 hour.
  • Place the cake layers on individual serving plates. Cover each cake round entirely with white frosting. For a festive touch, place one candy at the top of each cake and shape licorice pieces into hooks to insert on top of the candies. Get creative and decorate the "ornaments" with red and green decorating gels. Store the decorated cakes at room temperature with a loose covering.
