Delicious breakfast casserole with bread, eggs, cheese, ham or bacon, topped with crispy cornflakes for a satisfying meal.
Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon butter, or as needed
  • 16 slices bread, or more to taste, crusts removed and discarded
  • 1 pound ham, chopped
  • 0.75 pound shredded Cheddar cheese, or more to taste
  • 3 cups milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 0.5 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 3.5 cups cornflakes cereal
  • 0.25 cup butter, melted
Instructions:
  • Butter the 13x9-inch baking dish generously with 1 tablespoon of butter. Cut bread slices into quarters and use half to line the dish evenly, covering the bottom and sides completely.
  • Combine the ham and Cheddar cheese in a medium bowl, then spread over the bread layer in the dish and top with the remaining bread.
  • Combine milk, eggs, and mustard in a bowl, whisking until smooth. Pour the mixture over the bread, ensuring it is fully soaked.
  • In a separate bowl, mix cornflakes cereal with 1/4 cup of melted butter until well coated. Spread this mixture over the casserole. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight.
  • Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  • Bake in the oven until cornflakes turn golden brown, approximately 1 hour.
