Irresistible maple-glazed meatballs topped with crispy bacon - perfect for parties or game day!
Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • 0.5 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 0.5 pound hot Italian pork sausage, casing removed
  • 0.5 pound ground beef
  • 0.5 cup Italian-seasoned bread crumbs
  • 0.5 cup chopped cooked bacon
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup water
  • 0.5 cup Grade A maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon chicken soup base
  • 0.125 teaspoon cayenne, or to taste
  • 3 slices cooked, crumbled bacon
  • wooden toothpicks (optional)
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to a toasty 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and lay down a cozy parchment paper on a sheet pan.
  • In a 10-inch nonstick skillet over medium heat, sauté onion in olive oil until softened, for about 2 minutes. Stir in garlic and cook until fragrant, for 1 more minute. Remove from heat.
  • Mix Italian sausage, ground beef, bread crumbs, cooked bacon, egg, salt, pepper, and skillet contents in a bowl. Use your hands to thoroughly combine. Shape into 14 meatballs, each 2 inches wide, and arrange on the baking sheet.
  • Roast in the preheated oven until fully cooked in the center, for about 20-25 minutes. Use an instant-read thermometer to ensure the temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  • As the meatballs bake, prepare the glaze by simmering water, maple syrup, soup base, and cayenne pepper in a 10-inch nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Let it boil and reduce by half for about 8 to 10 minutes.
  • Take the glaze off the heat and let it cool. Use a rubber spatula to scrape down any syrup clinging to the skillet's sides, then stir it back into the glaze.
  • Arrange the meatballs in a serving dish and generously drizzle each one with the delicious glaze. Sprinkle with cooked, crumbled bacon, and serve warm with toothpicks for easy snacking.
