Impress guests with a stunning fireworks layer cake bursting with surprise inside and out!
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ White Cake Mix
  • Water, oil and egg whites called for on cake mix box
  • Red and blue gel food colors
  • 2 tubs (12 oz) Betty Crocker™ Whipped Fluffy White Frosting
  • 6 PEEPS® patriotic vanilla crème flavored chicks
  • 1/2 cup red, white and blue candy sprinkles
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pans). Follow box instructions to prepare cake batter. Divide batter evenly among 3 bowls. Color one bowl red, one blue, and leave the third bowl white.
  • Prepare cake pans by spraying with cooking spray. Line bottoms with parchment paper if desired. Spoon 1/3 cup red batter into the center of each pan, followed by 1/3 cup blue batter, then 1/3 cup white batter. Repeat layering until all batter is used.
  • Follow the instructions on the box for baking in 8- or 9-inch round cake pans. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a cooling rack. Let them cool completely for about 1 hour.
  • Place one cake layer on a serving plate, rounded side down. Spread 1/2 cup of frosting from one container on top of the cake layer. Add the second layer, rounded side up. Frost the sides and top of the cake with the remaining frosting from the container.
  • Split the remaining frosting into two bowls. Dye one bowl red and the other blue. Transfer each frosting into a separate plastic bag, then cut off a corner from each bag. Pipe a fireworks design on the cake, using a photo for reference.
  • Decorate the sides of the cake with a generous sprinkle of sprinkles and place adorable PEEPS® chicks on top. Slice and serve.
