Fluffy, savory black pepper yeast rolls - easy to pull apart.
Ingredients:
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons coarse ground black pepper
  • 2 (.25 ounce) packages fast-rising yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1.25 cups water
  • 3 tablespoons soft margarine
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon water
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and generously grease a tube pan.
  • Combine 3 cups of flour with sugar, pepper, yeast, and salt in a large bowl, stirring until well mixed.
  • In a saucepan over low heat, gently warm water and margarine to 130 degrees F (54 degrees C. Pour the hot mixture into the flour and stir briefly. Add 1 egg, beat to create a loose batter, then mix in 1 1/2 cups of flour. Knead on a floured surface until smooth and elastic, around 4 minutes.
  • Separate the dough into 12 even pieces, shape them into rolls, and arrange them at the base of the pan. Gently submerge the pan in a sink filled with warm water (around 115F/46C) until the rolls double in size, approximately 15 minutes. Whisk together an egg yolk and 1 tablespoon of water; generously brush the rolls with the egg wash mixture.
  • Bake until golden brown, approximately 25 minutes in the preheated oven.
