Satisfy your cravings with a delicious Philly Cheesesteak Casserole - loaded with savory ground beef, veggies, cream cheese, and gooey provolone. Perfect for busy weeknights!
Ingredients:
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil, divided
  • 1 pound lean ground beef, 90/10 blend
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, divided
  • 1 green bell pepper, stemmed and chopped
  • 1 yellow onion, chopped
  • 8 ounces cremini mushrooms, trimmed and chopped
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 6 ounces sliced provolone cheese, divided
  • 1 hoagie roll, cut into 1-inch cubes
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F and grease the bottom of an 8 x 8-inch casserole dish with 1 teaspoon of olive oil.
  • Sear the beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, season with 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper, and cook until browned for 5 to 6 minutes. Break apart the beef with a wooden spoon as it cooks, then transfer to a large bowl using a slotted spoon, keeping the flavorful juices in the skillet.
  • In a skillet over medium-high heat, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add peppers, onions, and mushrooms. Sprinkle with remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. Sauté for 8 to 10 minutes until vegetables release liquid and brown evenly.
  • Prepare the filling by combining the cooked veggies and cream cheese with the beef in a bowl. Stack half of the provolone cheese slices, cut them into small pieces, and add them to the bowl. Mix well. Spread the mixture into the casserole dish and top with the remaining provolone slices.
  • Prepare the croutons: Coat the cubed bread in the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large bowl, then evenly sprinkle it over the casserole.
  • Bake the casserole in the oven for 25 to 30 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and the croutons are golden brown. Allow it to cool briefly on the counter before serving warm.
