Ingredients:
  • 500g blue boiler peas
  • Boiling water
  • 10g salt
  • 10g bicarbonate of soda
  • 4 meat pies
  • Tomato Sauce, optional
  • Worcestershire Sauce, optional
Instructions:
  • Place peas in a pot of boiling water, then let them soak overnight off the heat. Drain and rinse.
  • Cover the peas and gently bring to a boil. Stir in salt and bicarbonate soda, then let simmer.
  • Remove the skins when they rise to the surface, then continue simmering until the mixture thickens to a smooth consistency.
  • To plate the dish, scoop mushy peas into soup plates. Invert a pie onto each plate, placing it on top of the peas. Finish with a drizzle of tomato sauce or Worcestershire sauce.
