European classic with a Hawaiian twist, featuring succulent pineapple slices.
Ingredients:
  • 4 x 4cm-thick slices crusty bread
  • 23.40 gm wholegrain mustard
  • 60g cheese
  • 60g sliced ham
  • 1/4 whole pineapple, peeled, core removed, thinly sliced
  • 80ml (1/3 cup) milk
  • 30g butter
Instructions:
  • Make a horizontal slit in each bread slice, leaving a 1cm-wide border on 3 sides to form a pocket without cutting all the way through.
  • Spread a layer of mustard inside each bread pocket. Fold each cheese slice in half. Stuff the bread pockets with the cheese, ham, and pineapple mixture.
  • In a shallow dish, combine eggs and milk, then season with salt and pepper.
  • In a large frying pan over medium heat, melt half of the butter and 2 teaspoons of oil until foamy.
  • Dip each sandwich in the egg mixture, ensuring it's fully coated. Place in the pan, press gently with a spatula, and cook until golden brown on each side for 2-3 minutes. Transfer to a plate.
  • Use a paper towel to wipe the frying pan. Then, repeat the process with the remaining butter, oil, sandwiches, and egg mixture. Finally, cut the French toasts in half before serving.
