Whip up a treasure-themed cake using cake mix, frosting, and candies for a simple yet delightful treat for your pirate!
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ White Cake Mix (or your favorite flavor)*
  • Tray or cardboard (15x12 inches), covered with wrapping paper and plastic food wrap or foil
  • 1 cup from 1 tub (16 oz) Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy Chocolate Frosting
  • 1 1/2 tubs (16 oz) Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy Vanilla Frosting
  • 1 chocolate-covered mint patty
  • 1 large marshmallow, cut in half
  • 1 blue gum ball or candy-coated chocolate candy
  • 1 yellow ring-shaped hard candy
  • 1 roll Betty Crocker™ Fruit by the Foot™ strawberry or other red chewy fruit snack (from 4.5-oz box)
  • 1 black licorice rope
  • Square-shaped candy-coated gum
  • Betty Crocker™ chocolate decors
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pans) and generously grease an 8-inch and a 9-inch round cake pan. Prepare cake batter according to package instructions and evenly distribute into the pans.
  • Follow baking instructions on the box. Let the cake cool for 10 minutes, then transfer to cooling racks to cool completely for about 30 minutes. For easier handling, chill the cake in the refrigerator or freezer for 30 to 60 minutes until firm.
  • With a serrated knife, carefully cut the 9-inch cake in half following the diagram provided. Reserve one half for the pirate's body. Cut the 8-inch cake according to the diagram. Place the cake pieces on a tray. Use small cake pieces to create the ears and nose, then secure them onto the cake with a small dab of frosting.
  • Mix 2 teaspoons of chocolate frosting into 1 1/3 cups of vanilla frosting, then use different frostings to decorate the pirate cake as desired. Chill for 30 to 60 minutes to set. Enjoy your pirate creation!
  • Frost the entire cake with the same frosting. Decorate with a mint patty for an eye patch, a slice of marshmallow and a gum ball for an eye, and a ring-shaped candy for an earring. Cut fruit snacks into shapes for shirt stripes, the mouth, and the strap for the eye patch; then place them on the cake. Cut licorice to fit the hat. Enhance with gum for teeth and chocolate decorations for whiskers. Store the cake loosely covered.
