Chewy and flavorful pizza dough recipe made with a mix of bread flour and whole-wheat flour. Makes three crusts to freeze for later.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 2.5 cups warm water (110 degrees F)
  • 0.5 cup whole wheat flour
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 5.5 cups bread flour
Instructions:
  • Combine yeast, sugar, and warm water in a large bowl. Allow the mixture to sit until creamy, approximately 10 minutes.
  • Combine whole wheat flour, oil, and salt with yeast mixture, then mix in 4 cups of bread flour. Gradually incorporate the remaining 1 1/2 cups of bread flour, adding 1/2 cup at a time and mixing thoroughly after each addition. Once the dough forms a cohesive ball, transfer it onto a lightly floured surface and knead until it becomes smooth and elastic, approximately 8 minutes.
  • Oil a large mixing bowl gently, then place the dough inside and rotate it to cover it with oil. Cover with a damp cloth and allow it to rise in a warm spot until it doubles in size, approximately 1 hour.
  • Deflate the dough and transfer it to a lightly floured surface. Divide into thirds and shape each piece into a round ball. Cover and allow to rest for 10 minutes.
