Popcorn cake - a delightful dessert for all ages!
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ Yellow Cake Mix
  • Water, vegetable oil and eggs called for on cake mix box
  • 2 containers Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy creamy white frosting
  • Tray or cardboard (24x16 inches), covered with wrapping paper and plastic food wrap or foil
  • Red pull-and-peel licorice
  • 1/4 bar (4-oz size) white chocolate
  • Betty Crocker™ blue decorating icing (from 4.25-oz tube)
  • 2 cups popped microwave kettle corn popcorn
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pan). Coat an 8-inch round cake pan with baking spray with flour. Grease and flour an 11x7-inch glass baking dish. Prepare the cake batter following the box instructions. Pour 1 1/3 cups batter into the round pan and the rest into the baking dish.
  • Bake in a preheated oven until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, approximately 23-28 minutes for an 8-inch shiny pan (26-33 minutes for a dark or nonstick 8-inch pan) and 34-38 minutes for an 11x7-inch dish. Allow the baked goods to cool for 10 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack. Cool completely for about 30 minutes before serving.
  • Slice the 8-inch round cake in half horizontally. Apply 2 tablespoons of frosting on the top of one cake half. Place the other cake half on top.
  • Slice a wedge from each long side of the 11x7-inch cake to create a 4-inch width at one end and a 7-inch width at the other end. Place the larger cake piece with the 4-inch end at one end of a tray. Put the rounded stacked cake at the 7-inch end to form the kettle corn cake. Chill in the freezer for 1 hour before frosting to minimize crumbs.
  • Cover the whole cake with the remaining frosting. Separate 5 sections of licorice and place them lengthwise on the popcorn bag.
  • Center the white chocolate bar on top of the popcorn bag. Use decorating icing to write "Happy Birthday" on the bar. Gently press the kettle corn onto the bar. Store the treat loosely covered.
