"Southern-style praline pecan French toast casserole: prep ahead for a decadent morning treat."
Ingredients:
  • 6 eggs
  • 1.5 cups half-and-half
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 (12 ounce) loaf French bread, sliced 1-inch thick
  • 0.75 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup maple syrup
  • 0.75 cup chopped toasted pecans
Instructions:
  • Prepare a 9x13-inch baking dish by greasing it.
  • In a bowl, combine eggs, half-and-half, 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth and the brown sugar has dissolved. Pour 1 cup of the egg mixture into the baking dish. Add French bread slices to the dish and pour the remaining egg mixture over the bread. Cover and chill overnight before baking.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Add brown sugar and maple syrup, stirring until smooth. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Stir in pecans. Pour the pecan praline syrup over the French toast casserole.
  • Bake the casserole in the preheated oven until it is perfectly set and turns a beautiful golden brown, approximately 30 minutes.
