Delicious Saskatoon berry dessert with creamy cream cheese and sweet oat topping.
Ingredients:
  • 1.5 cups brown sugar
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1.5 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 0.66666668653488 cup vegetable oil
  • 5 cups fresh serviceberries
  • 0.33333334326744 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 0.75 cup white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 (4 ounce) package cream cheese, diced
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and lightly grease an 8-inch square baking pan.
  • Prepare the delicious crust and topping by combining brown sugar, flour, oats, and cinnamon in a bowl. Slowly mix in oil until the mixture forms crumbs. Press half of the mixture into the pan for the crust and save the remaining half for the topping.
  • Bake the crust in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes until firm. Remove and allow to cool briefly while keeping the oven on.
  • Prepare the filling by simmering serviceberries and water in a saucepan until they soften. Add lemon juice, then stir in a blend of sugar and flour. Cook until the mixture thickens slightly. Remove from heat and cool briefly before pouring over the crust.
  • Evenly distribute cream cheese pieces over the filling, then gently spread the reserved crumb mixture on top of the cream cheese and press it down using a potato masher.
  • Bake until the crumb topping is golden and the filling is bubbly, approximately 40 minutes in the preheated oven.
