Sausage, Mushroom & Spinach Pizza Braid

Try this easy Italian sausage, mushroom, and spinach pizza braid using Pillsbury™ crescent dough for a tasty dinner upgrade!
Ingredients:
  • 1/2 lb bulk mild Italian sausage
  • 1 package (8 oz) sliced baby bella mushrooms
  • 2 cups chopped fresh spinach leaves (from 8-oz package)
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce (from 14-oz jar)
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated Pillsbury™ Original Crescent Dough Sheet
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (4 oz)
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F and prepare a large cookie sheet by spraying it with cooking spray or lining it with cooking parchment paper.
  • Heat Italian sausage in a nonstick skillet until no longer pink, around 6-8 minutes. Add mushrooms and cook for 4-6 minutes until lightly browned. Toss in spinach until slightly wilted. Take off heat and mix in pizza sauce.
  • Lay out the dough on a baking sheet to form a 13x8-inch rectangle. Spread 1/2 cup of cheese in a 3 1/2-inch-wide strip down the center of the dough, extending to the ends. Add the sausage mixture on top of the cheese. Finish by sprinkling the remaining 1/2 cup of cheese over the sausage mixture.
  • Create 1-inch spaced cuts on both sides of the rectangle just up to the edge of the filling. Fold the cut strips of dough at an angle across the filling, alternating sides and slightly overlapping the ends.
  • In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter uncovered on high for 20 to 30 seconds. Then mix in the Italian seasoning. Brush the seasoned butter on top of the braided crescent dough.
  • Bake until deep golden brown, which should take about 20 to 25 minutes. Allow to cool for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy with extra pizza sauce on the side, if desired.
