Cheesy sausage and grits casserole, a Southern comfort classic!
Ingredients:
  • 1 pound bulk pork sausage
  • 4 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup uncooked quick grits
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese (6 ounces)
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup milk
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F and generously coat a shallow 3-quart casserole with cooking spray.
  • Cook the sausage in a 10-inch skillet over medium heat for 7 to 9 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it is no longer pink. Remember to drain any excess fat before continuing with the recipe.
  • In a 3-quart saucepan, bring water and salt to a boil. Gradually whisk in the grits, lower the heat, cover, and simmer for 5 to 7 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in 1 cup of cheese and butter until melted. Finally, mix in the eggs, milk, and sausage.
  • Transfer the creamy grits mixture into the casserole dish and generously sprinkle the top with the remaining 1/2 cup of cheese. Enjoy the gooey goodness!
  • Bake the uncovered casserole for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the center is set. Allow it to cool for 10 minutes before serving.
