Elevate sautéed onions and chard with caraway seeds and a sweet hint of honey for a flavorful and simple side dish.
Ingredients:
  • 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 large onions, sliced 1/4-inch to 1/2-inch wide slices, root to stem
  • Salt
  • 1 pound chard, center ribs removed, leaves roughly chopped
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon celery seed
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons sherry or red wine vinegar
Instructions:
  • Sauté onions: Heat olive oil in a large sauté pan over high heat until shimmering. Add onions, cook for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally until soft and lightly browned. Season with salt while cooking.
  • Intensify flavors: Combine chard with onions and gently wilt. Then, incorporate honey, caraway seeds, celery seeds, and black pepper. Stir thoroughly and cook for an additional few minutes. Finish by adding vinegar just before serving.
