Inspired by my husband, these light and delicious rolls are made extra special by a secret frosting.
Ingredients:
  • 2 (.25 ounce) packages active dry yeast
  • 2.5 cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
  • 1 (9 ounce) package yellow cake mix
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup butter, softened
  • 0.75 cup white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 3 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 0.33333334326744 cup butter, softened
  • 1.5 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1.5 tablespoons milk
Instructions:
  • Begin by gently dissolving the yeast in warm water in a spacious bowl. Allow it to sit undisturbed until it turns creamy, which should take approximately 10 minutes.
  • Combine the yeast mixture, cake mix, salt, and vanilla in a large bowl. Mix well. Add the flour and beat until smooth. Cover the bowl and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  • Gently press the dough down and place it on a floured surface. Roll it into a rectangle and evenly spread butter. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Roll the dough into a log and slice into 3/4 inch thick pieces. Put the rolls into two greased 9x13 inch baking pans. Cover and allow to rise until doubled, approximately 45 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • First, bake the rolls in a preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes. As the rolls bake, make the frosting by combining confectioners' sugar, 1/3 cup butter, vanilla, and milk in a medium bowl. Once the rolls are slightly cooled, spread them with the frosting.
