Scandinavian heart-shaped waffles drizzled with vanilla sugar, jam, berries, and fluffy whipped cream - a delightful classic treat.
Ingredients:
  • 2 eggs, separated
  • 0.25 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla sugar
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1 pinch salt
Instructions:
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine egg yolks and white sugar, beat until light and frothy. Add vanilla sugar and water, mix until combined, then stir in half of the melted butter, half of the buttermilk, and half of the flour. Once smooth, add the remaining butter, buttermilk, flour, cardamom, and salt; beat until smooth.
  • Using an electric mixer, beat egg whites in a separate bowl until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the batter, maximizing volume.
  • Preheat the waffle iron following the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Pour a generous 1/3 cup of batter into the hot waffle iron, then shut the lid and cook until the waffle turns a beautiful golden brown, approximately 5 minutes. Transfer the waffle to a plate. For heart-shaped waffles, gently break the waffle into individual hearts before serving. Repeat with the rest of the batter.
