Succulent pan-seared steak on a bun with mushrooms, peppers, and melted cheese - a delicious lazy weekend treat.
Ingredients:
  • 2 (6 ounce) New York strip steaks
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 6 large button mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 bell pepper, cut into matchstick-size pieces
  • 2 sandwich buns, split
  • 0.5 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 0.25 cup mayonnaise
Instructions:
  • Season the steaks generously with salt and pepper, then let them rest at room temperature for approximately 15 minutes.
  • 1. Heat oil in a hot skillet and sear steaks until they are slightly pink in the center, about 5 minutes per side. Use a thermometer to ensure they reach 140°F (60°C) at the center. Let the steaks rest on a warm plate for 10 minutes before serving.
  • In the same pan over medium heat, melt butter. Add mushrooms and peppers, season with salt and pepper, and cook until tender, about 5 minutes.
  • Preheat the broiler in the oven with the rack positioned 6 inches from the heat source.
  • Place the buns under the broiler until they turn golden, which should take about 2 minutes. Spread mozzarella cheese over the bottom halves of the buns and put them back under the broiler until the cheese melts, approximately 2 minutes.
  • Thinly slice the steak, layer the slices over the cheese-topped bun halves, add mushrooms and peppers on top. Spread mayonnaise on the remaining bun halves and place on top to complete the sandwich.
