Elevate ahi tuna with a marinade of sesame oil, soy sauce, and spices, then sear for a delicious meal.
Ingredients:
  • 2 (6-8 ounce) ahi tuna steaks (3/4 inch thick)
  • For the marinade:
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or gluten-free tamari)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 scallion, thinly sliced (a few slices reserved for garnish)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lime juice
Instructions:
  • Prepare the marinade by combining the ingredients, then generously coat the tuna steaks with the mixture. Cover tightly and refrigerate for a minimum of one hour.
  • Heat a cast-iron skillet over high heat. Remove tuna from marinade and sear each side for 1-1.5 minutes, or longer for less rare tuna.
  • Once cooked, transfer the dish from the pan to a cutting board, and slice it into thin 1/4-inch slices. Garnish with some fresh scallions. Enjoy it as is, with steamed white rice, or atop a bed of crisp lettuce, thinly shaved cabbage, or fennel. Try it served over a fennel salad for a delightful twist.
