Quick and flavorful sesame-garlic broccoli side dish ready in just 20 minutes.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups broccoli florets (3/4 lb)
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons rice wine or chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seed
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon dark sesame oil, if desired
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped garlic
  • 2 teaspoons grated gingerroot
Instructions:
  • In a 10-inch skillet, bring 1 inch of water to a boil. Add the broccoli and boil for 3 to 5 minutes until tender yet crisp. Drain the broccoli in a colander and rinse under cold water to halt the cooking process. Set aside the broccoli.
  • In a small bowl, combine the broth, rice wine, cornstarch, and brown sugar, stirring until smooth.
  • Evenly sprinkle sesame seeds in the skillet and heat over medium-low for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring frequently until they start to brown. Continue to stir constantly until seeds turn golden brown. Remove the toasted seeds from the skillet right away and set them aside.
  • In the skillet, heat vegetable oil and sesame oil until shimmering over medium heat. Add broccoli and cook for about 1 minute, stirring frequently. Create a space in the center of the skillet and add garlic and ginger. Mix them into the broccoli and cook for another minute, being careful not to burn the garlic.
  • Mix the cornstarch mixture well to ensure there are no lumps, then pour it into the skillet. Bring it to a boil while stirring continuously. Cook and stir for an additional minute. Take it off the heat and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
