Create a romantic Cajun-inspired shrimp and grits dish for two with this quick and creamy recipe.
Ingredients:
  • 6 tablespoons grits
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 0.5 cup diced tasso ham
  • 2 tablespoons diced onion
  • 2 tablespoons diced green bell pepper
  • 20 medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 0.25 cup white wine
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon chopped green onion, green parts only
Instructions:
  • In a saucepan, bring salted water to a boil. Gradually whisk in the grits, stirring constantly. Reduce heat and simmer for about 20 minutes until smooth and tender, stirring often. Keep warm.
  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, crisp up tasso ham in olive oil. Add onion and green bell pepper, sauté until onion is translucent, about 4 minutes. Quickly stir in shrimp until just pink, 30 to 45 seconds. Remove shrimp and set aside.
  • Deglaze the skillet with white wine, stirring to incorporate any flavorful browned bits. Gradually pour in the cream, reduce heat, and simmer gently until sauce thickens, approximately 10 minutes. Season with salt and black pepper.
  • Split the grits between 2 plates and arrange 10 shrimp around the edges of each plate. Drizzle with cream sauce and top with chopped green onions.
