Creamy garlic mashed potatoes: A must-have holiday side dish. Boil potatoes and garlic cloves together, then mash with butter and milk for a silky smooth texture. Perfect pairing with turkey and gravy.
Ingredients:
  • 6 medium boiling potatoes (2 pounds)
  • 6 garlic cloves, peeled
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
Instructions:
  • Wash and scrub potatoes, optionally leaving skins on or peeling thinly to remove eyes. Keep potatoes whole or cut into large pieces.
  • Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add potatoes and garlic, cover, and simmer until tender - about 30 to 35 minutes for whole potatoes, or 20 to 25 minutes for potato pieces. Drain well and gently shake the pan over low heat to dry the potatoes.
  • In a medium bowl, mash potatoes until creamy. Gradually add milk, beating well after each addition until desired smooth and fluffy consistency is reached, adjusting amount as needed based on the type of potatoes used.
  • Incorporate butter, salt, and pepper. Beat energetically until the potatoes achieve a light and fluffy texture. Optionally, garnish with a touch of butter, paprika, fresh parsley, watercress, or chives.
