Indulge in creamy mac and cheese with savory bacon, onions, and garlic. Master the silky cheese sauce with slow, steady stirring. Pour milk gradually, stir constantly for perfection!
Ingredients:
  • 2 slices bacon
  • 8 ounces penne pasta
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 3 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to a toasty 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • In a large, deep skillet, crisp up the bacon over medium high heat until perfectly browned. Drain, crumble, and set aside.
  • Cook the pasta in a large pot of boiling salted water until it's perfectly cooked (al dente), then drain it.
  • Saute the chopped onion and minced garlic in a skillet until fragrant. Remove from heat and mix in the chopped cooked bacon. Set aside.
  • In a medium saucepan, gently melt the butter or margarine. Add the flour and stir for 2 minutes. Slowly pour in the milk, stirring continuously until thickened. Fold in 2 cups of grated Cheddar cheese until fully melted.
  • Mix together the cooked pasta, sauteed vegetables, and sauce, then pour the mixture into a 2 quart casserole dish. Sprinkle the remaining cup of grated Cheddar cheese on top.
  • Bake in a preheated oven until the cheese on top is melted and golden brown, about 15 to 20 minutes. Serve while warm.
