Create a festive edible snow globe using a fun gingerbread recipe.
Ingredients:
  • 150g butter, softened
  • 110g brown sugar
  • 125ml golden syrup
  • 1 free range egg
  • 450g plain flour
  • 10.00 gm ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 330g pkt bought royal icing
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 180C and prepare 2 baking trays by lining them with baking paper.
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter with sugar and golden syrup, stirring for 3-5 mins until smooth. Allow to cool for 30 mins.
  • Pour the butter mixture into a medium bowl. Add the egg and mix well. Incorporate the flour, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Knead on a floured surface until smooth. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate until firm, about 30 minutes.
  • Divide the dough into quarters and roll each portion out on a lightly floured surface into 3mm-thick discs.
  • Cut the dough into various-sized house shapes, approximately 2-5cm wide. Place on lined trays and bake for 10-12 minutes or until light golden. Let them cool on the trays.
  • Prepare royal icing according to the instructions on the packet. Transfer the icing to a piping bag with a 1mm plain nozzle. Use the icing to decorate the houses. Allow it to set for 30 minutes.
  • Pipe a small amount of icing onto the base of each house and attach them to the inside lid of a jar using the jar as support until the icing sets. Let it stand for 1 hour to set. Gently secure the lid onto the jar once the icing is set.
