Savor the nostalgia with Mom's secret molasses cookies. Try a twist with maraschino cherries instead of raisins for a delightful surprise!
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup margarine
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup unsulfured molasses
  • 4.75 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 3 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder
  • 1 teaspoon instant coffee granules
  • 0.75 cup milk
  • 4 tablespoons raisins
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and gently grease a few cookie sheets.
  • Cream together the sugar and lard in a large bowl. Gradually mix in the egg and molasses. In another bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, ginger, dry mustard, instant coffee, and cloves. Stir the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture alternately with the milk.
  • Spoon cookie dough onto lined baking sheets. Place a raisin or maraschino cherry in the center of each. Bake in a preheated oven for 15 minutes. Transfer to wire racks to cool after baking.
