Indulge in Betty's irresistibly soft and chewy ginger molasses cookies, a modern twist on Grandma's classic recipe. These cookies are perfectly spiced, with a crispy exterior and a sweet sugary finish. Ideal for holiday baking or whenever you crave a comforting treat.
Ingredients:
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/4 cups Gold Medal™ All Purpose Flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 325°F. In a large bowl, use an electric mixer on medium speed to beat together brown sugar, shortening, molasses, and egg until combined. Stir in all remaining ingredients except granulated sugar.
  • Roll dough into tablespoon-sized balls, coat the tops with granulated sugar, and place on an ungreased cookie sheet, leaving 2 inches of space between each ball.
  • Bake for 13 to 16 minutes until set and cookies look dry, then transfer to a cooling rack right away.
