Enhance star-shaped cookies with finely chopped almonds for added flavor and texture.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 3/4 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup finely chopped almonds
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 3 tablespoons edible glitter (any color) or Betty Crocker™ candy sprinkles
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 375°F.
  • In a medium bowl, combine granulated sugar, butter, and egg. Add flour, almonds, baking soda, and salt; mix well.
  • Divide the dough into 3 parts. Roll each part to 1/8 inch thickness on a lightly floured cloth-covered surface. Use a 2- to 2 1/2-inch star-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes. Transfer the cutouts to an ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake for 6 to 7 minutes until edges turn light brown, then cool completely for about 1 hour.
  • Blend powdered sugar and water until the mixture is silky and thin enough to spread easily. Gently coat cookies with a delicate layer of the glaze and finish by sprinkling on edible glitter.
