Elevate your sweet dough with creative twists and shapes for fun and tasty baking adventures.
Ingredients:
  • 1 egg white
  • 300g (2 cups) pure icing sugar, sifted
  • 3-21.20 gm fresh lemon juice
  • 2-3 drops red liquid food colouring
  • 250g butter, at room temperature
  • 4.40 gm vanilla essence
  • 300g (2 cups) plain flour
  • 70g (1/2 cup) custard powder
  • 41.20 gm milk
  • 155g (3/4 cup, firmly packed) brown sugar
  • 5.00 gm mixed spice
  • 2.50 gm ground ginger
Instructions:
  • Using an electric beater, cream together the butter, sugar, mixed spice, and ginger until pale and creamy. Mix in the vanilla. Add the flour, custard powder, and milk, then stir until a soft dough forms. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface, shape it into a disc, cover with plastic wrap, and chill in the fridge for 1 hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 160ºC and line 2 baking trays with non-stick baking paper. Divide the dough in half. Roll out one portion on a floured surface to 4mm thickness. Use a 6cm heart-shaped cutter to cut out hearts from the dough, re-rolling as needed, and place them on the lined trays.
  • Bake for 20 minutes, switching trays halfway through, until golden underneath. Allow to cool slightly on trays, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Repeat with remaining dough.
  • In a bowl, whisk the egg white until it becomes foamy. Stir in the icing sugar and lemon juice until a smooth paste forms. Divide the mixture in half and stir coloring into one of the halves.
  • Transfer the icing into piping bags with 2mm nozzles. Pipe alternating pink and white dots around the perimeter of each biscuit. Use a skewer to create a feathered effect by running it through the dots. Allow the biscuits to set for 10 minutes.
