Quick and spicy tuna puttanesca, ready in under 30 minutes for busy weeknights.
Ingredients:
  • 1 pound dry spaghetti
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 0.5 cup chopped onion
  • 0.25 cup chopped Kalamata olives
  • 3 tablespoons capers
  • 4 anchovy fillets, finely chopped
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 0.5 cup Pinot Grigio
  • 0.5 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 3 (4 ounce) tuna steaks
  • 0.5 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon fresh basil leaves, chiffonade
Instructions:
  • 1. Boil a pot of generously salted water. Add spaghetti and cook until al dente, stirring occasionally, about 12 minutes. Reserve 1/4 cup of pasta water before draining.
  • While the pasta is boiling, warm olive oil in a saute pan over medium heat until shimmering. Add onion, Kalamata olives, capers, anchovies, and garlic. Saute until onions are soft for about 5 minutes. Then, mix in crushed tomatoes, white wine, and red pepper flakes. Stir well to combine all ingredients.
  • Gently place the tuna steaks in the sauce, cover, and simmer until the tuna is easily flaked with a fork, approximately 10 minutes. If the sauce thickens too much, stir in 1 tablespoon of reserved pasta water at a time. Sprinkle in the Italian seasoning.
  • Top cooked pasta with the savory tuna and sauce mixture. Add a sprinkle of fresh basil for an optional burst of flavor.
