Indulgent chocolate buns - a delightful springtime treat.
Ingredients:
  • 375ml milk
  • 3 tsp dried yeast
  • 20.00 gm caster sugar
  • 600g plain flour
  • 1.20 gm salt
  • 1 egg, lightly whisked
  • 70g brown sugar
  • 100g dark chocolate, coarsely chopped
  • 125ml golden syrup
Instructions:
  • In a small bowl, mix the milk, yeast, and caster sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  • In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt together. Create a well in the center and pour in the milk mixture and egg. Stir until fully combined. Cover with plastic wrap and let the dough rise for 45 minutes, until it doubles in size.
  • 1. Preheat your oven to 200°C. Grease a 22cm round cake pan with butter and line it with baking paper. 2. Place the dough on a floured surface and knead it for 5 minutes until it's smooth and elastic. Roll it out into a 30x40cm rectangle. 3. Spread one-third of the butter on the dough, then sprinkle one-third of the sugar and chocolate over it. Fold one short side of the dough over two-thirds of the filling, then fold the remaining one-third over the top to cover the filling. Roll the dough out again to a 30x40cm rectangle. 4. Repeat the process with half of the remaining butter, sugar, and chocolate. Fold and roll the dough again. 5. Repeat the filling process with the remaining butter, sugar, and chocolate. Drizzle half of the golden syrup over the filling. Roll up the dough from a long side to encase the filling. Cut the rolled dough crossways into 8 pieces. 6. Arrange the pieces, cut-side up, in the prepared pan. Cover the pan with plastic wrap and let it sit for 15 minutes to allow the dough to rise.
  • Drizzle the remaining golden syrup over the top. Bake for 5 minutes, then lower the oven temperature to 180°C and bake for an additional 25 minutes until golden brown and cooked through. Let it sit for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
