Eton Mess: Crunchy meringue topped with macerated strawberries and whipped cream - a classic English treat.
Ingredients:
  • 4 large egg whites
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 0.75 pound fresh strawberries
  • 2 tablespoons sweet sherry
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to a cozy 225 degrees Fahrenheit (110 degrees Celsius) and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a glass, metal, or ceramic bowl, beat egg whites and salt until soft peaks form. Gradually add 1 cup of sugar and continue beating until stiff, glossy peaks form. Spoon meringue into 4 equal mounds on a baking sheet and shape into 3 1/2-inch rounds with smooth tops.
  • Bake in the center of the preheated oven for 1 1/2 hours until crisp and firm. Then, turn off the oven and allow the meringues to cool completely for about 1 hour.
  • Prepare a bowl of halved strawberries for garnish. Slice the rest of the strawberries and combine them in a small bowl with sherry and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Mix well and allow the mixture to macerate for 20 minutes.
  • Strain the juicy strawberries in a sieve over a bowl, keeping the flavorful syrup.
  • Whip chilled cream until stiff peaks form, then incorporate reserved syrup into the whipped cream.
  • On serving plates, arrange the meringues, top them with macerated strawberries, and spoon the cream mixture over them. Decorate the plates with halved strawberries for a finishing touch.
