Nutty base with jam and crumb topping, buttery and versatile strawberry crumble bars.
Ingredients:
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup finely chopped nuts
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour, or more as needed
  • 0.75 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1.5 cups strawberry jam
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for the perfect baking temperature.
  • In a large bowl, mix together flour, powdered sugar, nuts, and salt to create the base. Cut in the butter using a pastry blender until the mixture resembles cornmeal.
  • Spread mixture onto a 12x18-inch baking sheet, smoothing it into an even layer using your palm. No need to grease the pan; the dough is buttery enough to prevent sticking.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Allow to cool for 15 minutes while keeping the oven on.
  • In a bowl, mix 1 cup of flour and sugar for the topping. Add butter and use a pastry blender to cut it in until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs with no large butter clumps.
  • After letting the base layer cool, generously spread the jam on top, and then sprinkle on the topping mixture. Bake until the topping turns a beautiful golden brown, which should take about 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Allow the bars to cool for 15 minutes before slicing into 24 perfect squares.
