Creamy mushroom sauce coats baked chicken, topped with melted Cheddar cheese.
Ingredients:
  • 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour, divided
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt, divided
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 6 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves
  • 0.25 cup butter
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1.25 cups half-and-half
  • 6 ounces fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1.5 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
Instructions:
  • Combine flour, paprika, salt, and pepper in a shallow dish. Coat chicken with the mixture. Brown chicken in butter in a skillet. Add water, cover, and simmer for 25-30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) while you proceed with the recipe.
  • Once the chicken breasts are finished simmering, transfer them from the skillet to a 9x13 inch baking dish while keeping the drippings. In a bowl, blend 2 tablespoons flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and half-and-half. Pour and stir this mixture into the reserved drippings in the skillet. Simmer and stir until the sauce thickens. Introduce mushrooms and lemon juice and combine. Pour the sauce over the chicken, then bake uncovered in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
  • Top with a generous amount of cheese and bake for 3-5 minutes until melted and bubbly.
