Easy Scandinavian sugar cookie bars passed down from generations. Addictively simple to make, irresistibly delicious.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla sugar
  • 2 tablespoons golden syrup
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 350 degrees F (175 degrees C), then elegantly sift together the flour and baking soda.
  • In a bowl, combine butter, sugar, vanilla sugar, and golden syrup until creamy. Mix in the flour until just combined. Shape the dough into two 1-inch thick elongated rolls matching the length of your cookie pan. Place the rolls on the pan with room for spreading.
  • Bake in a preheated oven until light golden brown and flattened; about 20 to 22 minutes with margarine or 13 to 15 minutes with butter. Let cool slightly for about 3 minutes, then cut diagonally into 1 to 2 inch strips while warm. Transfer to wire rack to cool.
